The first mural of the Aiding Youth for Life HIV/AIDS awareness campaign 2003. The inaugural mural painting program at AYL set out to engage HIV/AIDS youth at-risk of contracting the virus (or already have) in worthwhile exercises to develop their creative ambition and allow them to express their thoughts about the pandemic in Tanzania. This piece is a reflection of our collaboration with a group of students from CTA and a local Dar Es Salaam Tinga-tinga artist; the central message of the piece is one of motherhood, of the natural human urge to nurture one another, to support our children as a tree supports her flora. We were blessed to be sponsored by Ole Dairy Products and TACAIDS Tanzania, who helped us realize this adventurous project.
