the triumvirate

Aerosol and Enamel on Concrete. 22’ x 14’. Sunita Guest House, Small Vagator Beach, Goa, India. 2006

This painting was a vision that I was blessed to have the opportunity to share in Goa by the kind owners of Sunita’s Guest House.  There has been a mixture of responses, given that the combination of icons on the same wall (let alone the same sentence) is highly unlikely, and can be misconstrued in many ways.  However, my belief is that each of these figures fought for peace in their own right – Bob Marley through music, Che Guevara through militant guerilla action, and Gandhiji through non-violenct non-cooperation.  They can be viewed as possessing conflicting ideologies, morals, and visions for political stability; however, one thing that they undeniably had in common was their will to fight for the survival of their people by freeing colonized minds (and lands).

One more thing they all had in common – those priceless smiles. Another Beautiful Struggle mural.
