roxanne Musterer

Self-portrait. Guache on Paper. 18" x 24". 2003.

Born and raised in west end Toronto, Roxanne Musterer  developed an interest in visual arts at an early age, being surrounded by fine art prints in her father’s picture frame store and encouraged by her mother she was constantly drawing and painting, so much so that her elementary school teachers nick named her ‘fairy fingers’.

Growing up in the inner city during the 80’s, the golden age of hip hop and street art culture, Roxanne was surrounded by wall art on the street and along the subway lines. She was enamored by the anonymity and scale of the artwork she saw. Roxanne attended Etobicoke School of the Arts where she had her first exposure to oil painting, portraiture, ceramics, print making and figure drawing. While becoming involved in creating and showing fine arts, Roxanne also became involved in the urban art community and by the age of seventeen she was organizing large group shows with other young artists at a local gallery in Parkdale, Toronto ( James Allen Fine Art).

Roxanne is a graduate of Sheridan College’s distinguished Illustration program. She has worked as an in house graphics designer and illustrator for the Canadian publication; Pound Magazine, while maintaining a client list which includes: Bell Solo, Ryerson University, NBA Canada and others. While enjoying the personal expression afforded through editorial illustration Roxanne finds the challenges and rewards of working with at risk youth to create community murals to be far more rewarding.
