ARTERY PROJECT OVERVIEW
**ARTERY is an acronym for Artists Remain True 2 Empower ouR Youth** ARTERY was developped by the LOFT Youth Program in response to the lack of visual arts programming for young artists in the Christie Ossington community. Many of these talented youth have to forego careers in fine arts because they do not recieve the opportunities to expand their horizons and learn about ways to make a living off fine arts. In addition, the increased amount of tags, bombs and street vandalism in the Catchment Area (Ward 19 - Toronto) is a problem that has to be addressed from the root cause - young artists with no legal outlets for their cultural practice - graffiti art. ARTERY seeks to empower these youth by providing them with opportunities to showcase their talent, work as a team to produce murals in the community, and document their progress to share their work with other youth.
ARTERY is funded by the Ontario Arts Council and the Christie Ossington Neighborhood Centre. The idea was developped by Roxanne Musterer and Javid Alibhai, both visual artists with experience leading Graffitti Transformation programs, and Mr Robert Bailey, Program Manager at the LOFT Youth Program.

ARTERY MURAL PRODUCTIONS
ARTERY has combined with the CONC Murals to facilitate the production of murals that attempt to bridge the gap between mural art and graffiti art in the city of Toronto. ARTERY believes that there are insufficient quality PRODUCTIONS that satisfy the criteria for successful murals and thus Toronto is not recognized as a city with awesome street art. Rather there is a separation between traditional brush painted murals and graffiti murals. We want to push the limits of both practices through aerosol art, with an appreciation of the finer details and techniques involved in the design and execution of murals proper.
