In August 2005, the City of Toronto Culture Division, Downsview Park and the Downsview Park Arts Alliance (DPAA) initiated an in-kind outreach project for youth in support of the Mayor’s Community Safety Plan – Neighbourhood Action Plan for the Jane-Finch community. The outreach project approved by the partners was a three-month Youth Mural Project located at Downsview Park in the facilities rented by DPAA. Five youth, aged 16 – 24 and residents of the Jane-Finch community, were recruited to participate in this innovative employment opportunity through youth employment centres and appropriate City agencies and divisions. Two lead artists instructed and mentored the youth for the duration of the project. The Youth Mural Project engaged youth through ongoing interaction with artists to develop artistic and entrepreneurial skills and knowledge of the arts and culture sector. The project culminated in an unveiling of the large-scale mural at Downsview Park on November 26th, 2005. |

The team also commenced an indoor mural after the Equilibrium was completed.
Preliminary design. The idea of an audience was inspired by the fact that the mural was located in the rehearsal/set design space of the DPAA.
Color sketch. Unapproved, of course.
In-progress.

Somewhat complete.
