The Checkered Threedom are a series that employ the checker-board format as a means to discuss the symbology associated with man, woman and devil. The same stencils appear in each piece, but their organization and their compound relations with other numerals and characters breed a complex web of dubious meanings associated with femininity (I), masculinity (II) and divinity (III).
Check'em (II) engages the viewer in a subtle chronology of patriarchy, from the blessing of life itself in the top left corner (the point that defines the ba in classical Arabic) to the blinding booty-bling-balling years of boy-hood (where boy is sprayed across the middle squares) and finally to the realization of the cyclical fashion of life itself, where dollars finally make sense and the real X is marked on spiritual practice. A real man will shoot to kill.
